Frequently asked questions about SteadyPractice
Is SteadyPractice HIPAA compliant?
This is a nuanced question and we want to answer it honestly. SteadyPractice stores all data locally on your device. Under HHS guidance, BrookFord LLC is not a HIPAA Business Associate because we never create, receive, maintain, or transmit Protected Health Information on anyone's behalf. Your data stays entirely on your phone — we never see it. However, if you are a therapist subject to HIPAA, compliance is ultimately your responsibility. That means securing your device, managing backups safely, and following your licensing board's requirements. SteadyPractice is built to support your compliance by keeping data local and private — but no app, by itself, makes you HIPAA compliant.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Since data is stored locally, a lost phone means lost data unless you've created a backup. SteadyPractice includes a JSON backup feature — we recommend backing up regularly and storing the file somewhere secure.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. SteadyPractice is iPhone only for now. Drop us a note if you want Android — it helps us prioritize what to build next.
Can I switch from SimplePractice or TherapyNotes to SteadyPractice?
There's no automatic import. You'd need to re-enter your active clients manually. For a solo practitioner with 5–20 clients, that's usually 15–30 minutes of setup.
Why is SteadyPractice so much cheaper than SimplePractice or TherapyNotes?
